Pastor Chris Johnson was appointed as the leader of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in October 2024. 

A native of Glennville, Georgia, Pastor Johnson later moved to Augusta, where he was educated in the Richmond County Public School System. He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.

Pastor Johnson began his career at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in 1989, working for various Department of Energy contractors, including DuPont, Westinghouse, Washington Group, and Savannah River Remediation. His roles spanned several areas of leadership, including Radiological Controls Supervision, Public Affairs, Operations Management, Equal Employment Opportunity Investigations, Human Resources Operations, and Training. After retiring from Savannah River Remediation in 2012, he became Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner for Richmond County, managing Motor Vehicle and Property Tax Operations.

Pastor Johnson is a proud U.S. Naval Reserve veteran with a passion for ministry and community development. His leadership extends to efforts in urban redevelopment, blight remediation, and youth development. He has served as Chairman of The Augusta Georgia Land Bank Authority for nearly a decade, helping to revitalize local neighborhoods.

Since stepping into the role of pastor at Piney Grove, Pastor Johnson has continued his mission to inspire and uplift the community. He previously served as the Youth Pastor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Greater Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church before dedicating himself fully to his pastoral duties at Piney Grove.
